Top Ten Shakespeare Plays
There is absolutely no need to introduce this brilliant writer. He was born on the 26th of April 1564 in England. He is regarded as the best writer in the English speaking world and is often referred to as the National Poet of England. It is not known exactly how many plays he wrote, but if you considered the ones that survived plus a few collaborations, it comes to a total of 38 different plays and ten of the greatest ones (opinion) are listed below. 10. THE WINTER’S TALE

This particular play was originally considered to be a comedy however, now it is considered as a romance tale. The story is taken from Pleasant History of Dorastus and Fawnia by Robert Greene. That story was published in the year 1588. The first half of the tale is tragic while the second have is comedy. This particular play has been popular with the audiences for a very long time and it seems as if it will stay that way. It is interesting how the two halves are set. You rarely find a tragic and comedy mix these days.
9. THE TAMING OF THE SHREW

This is a comedy play and is supposedly written somewhere between the year 1590 and 1594. In this particular play, a drunkard is tricked into believing that he actually is a nobleman. Later that particular drunkard watches the play himself. Petruchio, the nobleman, marries a girl named Katherine. She finally is obedient to Petruchio. Katherine’s sister is also featured in the play and her name is Bianca. This play has been very popular for opera, musicals and stage and has been a victim of much controversy as well.
8. A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM

This particular play is said to have been written somewhere between the year 1590 and 1596 and it is about the events that surround a marriage between Theseus (Due of Athens) and Hippolyta (Queen of the Amazons). A group of six amateur actors and four young Athenian lovers are also featured, who are manipulated by the fairies in the forest. The play is mostly set in the forest by the way. This particular play has been performed many times around the world and has remained quite popular amongst the audiences.
7. JULIUS CAESAR

I am pretty sure you guys are familiar with this particular character. Anyway, this is a tragic play believed to have been written in the year 1599. It talks about the conspiracy against Julies Caesar; his assassination to be precise. This play is based on true events taken from the Roman history. The play features Coriolanus, Anthony and Cleopatra too. Julius Caesar is not the primary character of the play as most of you must be thinking. It is a must watch nevertheless, so if it is playing anywhere near you and you haven’t caught this on yet, you should!
6. TWELFTH NIGHT

This is a comedy play believed to have been written between the years 1601 and 1602. The first recorded performance of Twelfth Night was on the 2nd February in the year 1602 and it was recorde3d at Candlemas. Twelfth Night is also known as What You Will; these two are not different plays. The play was originally meant to be called What you Will, but before it was performed, another play came up with the same name. So William Shakespeare changed the name to Twelfth Night.
