10 Biggest Box Office Flops
I like movies. Let’s face is, who doesn’t? The things with movies is that everything is so saturated and clichéd now that there hardly is any worth wasting your time on. Off and on there comes a movie that breaks the records and soars high in the sky, but with that many other movies are released that fail to as good. People keep talking about the box office hits and highest grossing movies but there hardly is a discussion on the lowest grossing ones. So here we are, compiling a list of movies that did really, REALLY bad at the box office. Enjoy the read and let us know if we missed any.
It was released in the year 2005. The net loss was $111.7 million dollars. It is a science fiction action film and stars Josh Lucas, Jamie Foxx, Jessica Biel, Sam Shepard and Richard Roxburgh. The movie was directed by Rob Cohen who happens to be the director of The Fast and the Furious and xXx. The movie was released by Columbia pictures and it takes the tenth spot on the box office failure lists. Stealth was produced by Mike Medavoy, Neal H. Moritz and Laura Ziskin. The movie is about three top-of-the-class fighter pilots. They join a project to develop an automated robotic stealth aircraft. While the concept isn’t half bad, the movie failed miserably.
9. HEAVEN’S GATE
The movie was released in the year 1980 and it suffered a loss of 114.3 million dollars. The movie is based on the Johnson County War. It was dispute between the land barons and European immigrant. It was directed by Michael Cimino and produced by Joann Carelli. The movie stars Kris Kristofferson, Chris Walken, Isabelle Huppert, Jeff Bridges and John Hurt. United Artists were responsible for distributing the film. The movie only earned around three million dollars domestically and it contributed to the collapse of United Artists in a major way. The movie also destroyed the reputation of Michael Cimino himself.
8. SPEED RACER
Speed Racer was released in the year 2008 and it suffered a loss of 114.5 million dollars. The movie was adapted from the Japanese manga and anime called ‘Mach Go Go Go’. As the name suggests, it centers around automobile racing. Since I am a fan of anime, I will not watch this movie. I would rather watch the anime, or even better, read the manga. Speaking of which, what is your favorite anime?
7. TOWN & COUNTRY
It was released in the year 2001 and suffered a loss of 124.2 million dollars. Town & Country stars Warren Beatty, Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn and Garry Shandling. It is a romantic comedy and is one of the biggest money-LOSING films in the history of American cinema. It was directed by Peter Chelsom. As much as I would love to see a romantic comedy, this is on my not-to-watch list.
6. THE 13TH WARRIOR
The 13th warrior was released in 1999 and suffered a loss of 137.1 million dollars. It is historical action film starring Antonio Banderas and Vladimir Kulich and is based on the novel Eaters of the Dead by Michael Crichton. The Thirteenth Warrior was directed by John McTiernan.
